Job Description We have two Herd Manager positions available. The right appicants must be able to work well with others, have a positive can-do attitude who is eager to progress through the dairy industry.
Blackford Farming is an established family business.

The farm is 303Ha, un-irrigated, with a 60 bail rotary shed, milking 1000 cows. The shed is fitted with ACR’s, auto teat sprayer and Protrac. All cows are wintered off farm. All young stock is off farm most of the time. We aim to rear 320 plus calves and all cows and young stock are DNA tested.

The farm is located at the base of Mt Hutt, 10 minutes from Methven, 40 minutes from Ashburton and 1 hour from Christchurch. We run a 6,2 roster for most of the season and a 6,1 roster during calving. The salary package includes, accommodation, firewood and wet weather gear.

(The applicant must be eligible to work in NZ. Must have a clean police record and clean NZ driving licence and be able to supply two references. We have a drug free work place, no alcohol or drug issues. Pre-employment drug testing may be required).
Qualifications You must have a minimum of two years experience within NZ dairy farming. The role requires you to have a good understanding of cowshed practice, animal health issues, pasture management as well as general day to day farming practices. A high standard of overall farm tidiness is required at all times.
You must be able to communicate clearly, work as part of a team, not be afraid to ask questions and show initiative when required. Honesty and reliability is also a key attribute. Tractor skills are required for feeding out silage and heavy rolling. Training will be given in this area.
