Work wraps up on Seafield Road rehabilitation PDF Print E-mail
22 May 2019 - ADC - Driving conditions along Seafield Road will return to normal in the next week, when extensive improvements to a 550 metre section of the road finishes up.

Just over half-a-kilometre of road between the Ashburton Airport and Cochranes Road has been rehabilitated and widened for drivers.

The road is expected to open tomorrow, with 50km speed restrictions in place until road marking is completed next week.

Work began on Seafield Road on 8 May, and has included earthworks, undercutting failed pavement, metalcourse construction, sealing and drainage works.

The project is one of the last of a particular rehabilitation and reseal contract carried out by Fulton Hogan on behalf of the Ashburton District Council. Other projects have included rehabilitation to 4.37km of Thompsons Track, and 1.21km of Wilsons Road.

The newly rehabilitated section of Seafield Road now boasts a total width of eight metres, providing traffic with ample room in their lane.

Traffic use and environmental factors such as high temperatures and rainfall cause all road surfaces to deteriorate over time. Rehabilitation resets this process.

The Council regularly carries out rehabilitation work on it's more than 2,600km roading network each year, some of which is subsidised by the NZ Transport Agency, with the remainder being fully funded by the Council.
