Over $200,000 has been awarded for community-based tourism initiatives, Associate Minister of Tourism Jonathan Coleman announced today. Three grants have been awarded through the Tourism Facilities Grants Programme (TFGP) to assist with the provision of physical tourism facilities that would not be feasible on a commercial basis. The three successful recipients are: · The Waitangi National Trust: $70,100 for the development and production of interpretation displays for the new reception centre and upgraded visitor centre at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. · The Pukaha Mount Bruce Board: $48,250 to assist with the development and production of interpretative DVDs for the upgraded Kiwi/Nocturnal House. · The Methven District Heritage Association: $88,889 to assist with the development of the ‘New Zealand’s Alpine and Agriculture Encounter’ exhibition. “These projects are designed to enhance the understanding and enjoyment of New Zealand by overseas visitors. “Any project which adds value and enjoyment to our tourism product contributes to the overall success of our tourism industry," says Dr Coleman. Applications for next year’s funding round close 1 October 2010. |
