Local Alcohol Policy to take effect in August PDF Print E-mail
18 May 2017 - ADC - Ashburton District Council made a decision at its meeting today for the Local Alcohol Policy to come into effect on 28 August this year, following the policy’s approval and adoption by the Alcohol Regulatory and Licencing Authority (ARLA) on 5 April 2017.

Before the policy could take effect, Council had to determine a date at least three months from the date of public notification to allow licence holders time to adjust to the new conditions set out in the policy.

“The development of the LAP has involved extensive consultation and input from the community and key stakeholders,” Environmental Services Group Manager Jane Donaldson says. “The LAP introduces a number of changes to licencing conditions with the goal of improving community safety in Ashburton District.

“Council will begin publically notifying the decision next week. All affected licence holders will receive a letter from Council advising them if there are any changes to their licences. We encourage the community to familiarise themselves with the policy,” she adds.

Under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, territorial authorities can develop a Local Alcohol Policy for their district. The policy can influence the location, number and opening hours of on, off, club and special licences.
