Local Alcohol Policy comes into force today PDF Print E-mail
28 August 2017 - ADC - Liquor licence holders in the district are being reminded to ensure they are complying with the provisions of their licence, as the Ashburton District Council’s Local Alcohol Policy (LAP) comes into force today.

The LAP sets out rules for the sale, supply and consumption of alcohol in the district, and was adopted by the Alcohol Regulatory and Licencing Authority in April this year.
Council Environmental Services Group Manager Jane Donaldson says the LAP introduces a number of changes to licencing conditions with the goal of improving community safety in the Ashburton District.
“Council has been working with licence holders to transition to the new policy. Letters were sent to all licensees to ensure they were aware of any changes to the conditions of their licence.
“The development of the LAP follows extensive consultation with the community and key stakeholders. It has been designed to address our local requirements and help minimise alcohol-related harm in the community.”
Under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, territorial authorities can develop a Local Alcohol Policy for their district. The policy can influence the location, number and opening hours of on, off, club and special licences.
On 18 May this year, Council resolved for the LAP to come into effect on 28 August, in accordance with legislative requirements.
