Impersonators on stage PDF Print E-mail
14 September 2017 - By Maureen Bishop - Gavin Templeton is tight-lipped about who he will impersonate in the Stars in your Eyes contest next month.
``I can impersonate about 20 people but you have to look like them and have the right gear,'' he said.
``I'm lucky as my wife, Gabrielle, is a collector of strange clothes so we have lots of costumes.''
He is no stranger to the stage, having appeared in many musicals in Ashburton over the years. He's even been in another look-a-like contest in Geraldine, appearing as Elvis Presley.
``I'm not doing him this time,'' was all he would say about who he will transform into.
The Lions Club of Ashburton County is staging the event on October 14 at the Ashburton Trust Event Centre to raise funds for the Youth Institute of Ashburton District Charitable Trust.
Entry is open to all would-be stars, no matter their age, and is free. Bands are limited to four members and just 12 contestants will make the final.
They will be judged on impact, costume and the likeness to their nominated star.
Entries close on Monday, September 18 at 5pm.
Contestants need to provide a DVD of their performance but the Lions club has people available to help with this if needed.
