Harry Vernon Chichester PDF Print E-mail
The Ashburton grave of Harry Vernon Chichester has a reader of The Courier intrigued – and he would love some information. The inscription of the gravestone says it was erected by the pupils of Ashburton Borough Schools.

Chichester, according to Ashburton District Council cemetery records, was 29 when he was buried on October 31, 1883.
Our reader believes he may have died in the Winslow Hotel, but is not sure.
He also believes Chichester may have been a school teacher.
The Rev E. A Scott, records say, officiated.
If you have any information about Mr Chichester, or why the gravestone was erected by pupils of the schools, you can contact

The Courier at (03) 3087664 or email
