19 June 2019 - ADC - The Ashburton District Council has today announced the appointment of an Economic Development Manager who will be tasked with facilitating growth in current businesses and attracting new investment in the Ashburton District.

Bevan Rickerby, who is a life member of the Otago Chamber of Commerce and brings a wealth of experience in economic and business management, has accepted the newly established position.

Mr Rickerby's role will focus on implementing the Council's Economic Development Action Plan, by fostering productive economic relationships - both in and outside of the district, developing initiatives, and proactively engaging with potential developers and investors.

Council Chief Executive Hamish Riach says, "Bevan's enthusiasm, energy, skill-set and vast experience will be a great fit with the Council and will allow him to hit the ground running when he begins on 5 August.

"We are excited for him to join the team and lead our Economic Development Action Plan."

Mr Rickerby is a current director of Experience Mid Canterbury and will relinquish this position to start his new role. He also works for City Care in Timaru as the key accounts manager for their relationship with the Timaru District Council in the three waters area.

Prior to this, Mr Rickerby was a business consultant, General Manager for Plains Irrigation Ltd, and Business Relationship Manager for the Otago Polytechnic. He has held a variety of roles in transport, and media companies, and with DB Breweries, as well as a range of administration, sales and marketing roles.

Of his appointment, Mr Rickerby said, "I'm very pleased to be taking up this opportunity with the Ashburton District Council. The district has a great deal of potential and I'm excited to implement the Council's action plan and work with businesses and developers to facilitate increased investment and growth here."
