SH1 north of Kaikoura opens PDF Print E-mail

15 December 2017 - NZTA - The NZ Transport Agency has reopened State Highway 1 (SH1) north of Kaikoura - one year, one month and one day after the Kaikoura earthquake in November 2016, allowing people to drive through from Picton to Christchurch on the coastal highway route.

14 December 2017 - By Mick Jensen - A three-day filming visit from a Philippines television crew has put Mid Canterbury and its Filipino population in the spotlight.
A crew of five from the GMA 7 Network, including a host, two producers and two cameramen, have compiled documentary footage that will be broadcast to 1.5 million viewers in the South East Asian country later this month.

14 December 2017 - Descendants of Scottish immigrants Robert and David Marshall will get together early next year for a big joint family reunion.
The brothers farmed separately on land at Lakeside, Lake Ellesmere from the 1860s and some family members later headed south to live and work in Mid Canterbury.

14 December 2017 - Hakatere Heritage Committee, fresh from major projects at Hakatere Corner in the Ashburton Gorge, is tackling a new project - stables.
To date, committee members, in conjunction with the Department of Conservation, have worked on the historic stone cottage - believed to be the oldest building in Mid Canterbury - the shearers' quarters, and the old cookshop.
