19 July 2018 - Hilary Singlewood is harvesting her hair to be made into a wig and raising money for those going through a cancer journey.
It has taken the Ashburton woman more than three years to grow her hair long enough for harvest and now her `virgin hair' (hair that is neither permed or coloured) is more than 35.5cm (14 inches) long, she can finally get it harvested for a wig.

19 July 2018 - The Blind Foundation is opening doors to a pop up open day in Ashburton on Thursday 26 July 2018.
The public is invited to find out more about what the Blind Foundation does, and how it can support people in the area. There will be a free information session on how people who have low vision or are blind can use smart technology, specifically smart phones and iPads, to assist them.

19 July 2018 - By John Keast - Sydney Symons - Ossie Symons - reckons there was always work for willing hands in his day, and he has done his share.
Mr Symons is 100, still at home in Ashburton, but he spends two days a week at Park Street day care.
He reckons they know the secret to a man's heart is through his stomach - ``they put on lovely meals, and music, and music has charms to soothe the savage breast, and specialise in making old men like me feel happy''.

12 July 2018 - Federated Farmers - News that a lifestyle block in Rakaia with 24 animals has tested positive for Mycoplasma bovis shows that all cattle farming operations must take heed of the disease, Federated Farmers Dairy Chairperson Chris Lewis says.
Another lifestyle block near Inglewood is under Notice of Direction while follow-up testing is done.
