Female artistic opportunity PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 27 July 2018
26 July 2018-By Mick Jensen - Entries are open for the 2019 Zonta Ashburton Female Art Award (ZAFAA).
Run by Ashburton Art Gallery in partnership with the Zonta Club of Ashburton, the award is open to all Canterbury-based emerging and mid-career female artists.
It acknowledges excellence in fine arts and assists in the development of growing careers.
ZAFAA committee member Jane Hurley says the awards are an exciting opportunity for Zonta to empower women through art and to raise the public profile of women artists.
The 2019 Premier Award recipient will win a cash prize of $3,500 and the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at the art gallery the following year.
Ashburton Art Gallery curator Shirin Khosraviani said the winner would have the ``incredible'' opportunity to develop a new body of work for public exhibition and have the support of a passionate institution at their side.
As well as the Premier Award, there is also a Young Generation Award for female artists aged between 16 and 20 years.
All entries will be shortlisted by a panel of three art professionals, with the awards announced on March 1, 2019.
ZAFAA entry forms are available through the art gallery website - ashburtonartgallery.org.nz. Entries close Sunday 31 October 2018.
