Agnes celebrates 100th with pals and cup of tea
31 January 2019 - Radius Millstream resident Agnes Lister turned 100 on Monday and celebrated the milestone with afternoon tea surrounded by a big gathering of family and friends.
Raised just north of Dunedin on the family farm, Agnes has been a resident of Mid Canterbury since 1956.
She married farmer George Lister, who died in 1968.
Agnes has two sons (plus one deceased), seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She has lived in Radius Millstream for the last 2 1/2 years and is a keen Scrabble and Housie player. She also still tackles big jigsaw puzzle projects.
Agnes said she worked as a tapestry printer in her younger days and also did shop window displays.
She had received her birthday card from the Queen and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and lots of other cards and gifts.
``I didn't really want all this fuss, but I suppose you're only 100 once.''
Agnes' brother, Charles Hammond, who is a sprightly 94, made a flying visit to Ashburton from his home in Invercargill to celebrate the birthday milestone.
A third sibling, a late sister two years older than Agnes, also lived into her 90s.
