Owners Struan and Deirdre McGregor, both talented artists themselves, recently left the real estate inidustry with the kernel of an idea that they wanted to do something in the local art scene but not too sure exactly what. Struan started painting at the tender age of 11, but began to paint seriously in his early 20’s, and is currently doing a Diploma in Art Studies at Ashburton Polytech, a course he says where he has rediscovered a lot about art and learned a great deal more! And while he says that while Deirdre probably won’t admit it, she has a natural talent with colours and jewellery.

d’arte gallery is definitely not a monument to an elitist arts society. All the art has been carefully selected by both Deirdre & Struan, bearing in mind they are trying to appeal to a wide variety of tastes and budgets. They have deliberately focused on bringing together an eclectic mix of artistic mediums; whether your taste is in stone carvings, jewellery, photography, abstract and true-to-life paintings, merino baby garments, or conceptual art, you are sure to find something you simply can’t resist.
Whether you are looking for a gift or that special piece to adorn your walls, call in and browse and enjoy a freshly brewed coffee :-
